What is a flower with strong fragrance that comes in white and purplish-pink shades?

I have no idea what this flower is called but it grows in some sort of a tree-shrub way. It has a very strong pleasant fragrance.

Might be a lilac. I’ve seen them in seed catalogs and gardening books in the colors you mention. I have a lilac bush that has lavender blooms. It smells wonderful! I always bring in a bouquet in the spring when they are in bloom. Their fragrance fills the room.

It would help to have a photo. But it sounds like a nasturtium.

Here’s an engine search that might help you though

Maybe a Peony. Peonies grow on a small/medium size bush and the flowers smell beautifully sweet. I have seen them in white, pinkish and deep red.
