Any and all fragrances, natural or artificial, can be an irritant to people who have allergies or asthma. For me, the worst ones are floral, musk, second-hand cigarette smoke (MUCH worse than natural smoke–this is the only thing that has put me into an ambulance!), the smell of dogs and cats (though really this is probably just the dander), bleach, and other strong chemical smells.
I usually do okay with smells I can also eat. Cinnamon, vanilla, or pineapple-scented candles and lotions don’t usually present a problem, even if it smells pretty fake.
the trouble with fragrance allergies are that they are impossible to work out ‘exactly’ what it is that is the problem UNLESS there is only one ingredient in the mix.
I feel sorry for you! What smells good to one person can make the next person feel really bad.I sympathize! Not much you can do about it except avoid it where possible.
